FaceID kiosk

The 4Geeks Payroll FaceID kiosk turns an Android tablet into a touchless attendance terminal. Employees clock in and out by looking at the camera — no cards, no PINs.

It runs fully on-device: face detection and matching happen on the tablet, and clock events sync to 4Geeks Payroll automatically.

Before you start

  1. Employees need photos. Upload at least 3 usable photos per employee in the console (employee profile → Photos tab). See employees.
  2. Create a station. In Payroll → Stations, create a station whose name will be the kiosk’s device ID. See stations.

Configure the kiosk

  1. Install and open the kiosk app on the tablet. If it is not configured, it shows a Device Not Configured screen.
  2. Tap Configure Device (or tap the device-ID bar at the bottom at any time).
  3. Enter the Device ID — use the station name (or a configured device ID). The kiosk resolves it against your company and downloads the employee gallery.
  4. The kiosk shows Synchronizing employees… while it downloads photos and computes face templates. This can take a while for large teams.

The device ID must match a station name or a registered device, otherwise the kiosk cannot sync.

Daily use

  1. An employee stands in front of the camera.
  2. The kiosk detects the face, checks its position and quality, and matches it locally.
  3. On a match, it shows the employee’s name and a CLOCK IN or CLOCK OUT badge and plays a confirmation sound.
  4. If the same person is recognized again within a minute, it shows Already registered and does not create a duplicate event.

The screen displays a SENSOR STATUS indicator (Active/Ready, Processing, Success, Error) and guidance messages such as “Move a little closer”, “Move toward the light” or “Keep your head straight” when the face is not usable.

Offline operation

  • Face recognition works without internet.
  • Clock events are stored on the device and synced automatically when the connection returns. While offline, the kiosk shows “Recorded (offline). Will sync automatically.”
  • Employee data refreshes periodically and on demand.

Updates

The kiosk can update itself over the air from a new release and prompts Update Available when one is ready.

Troubleshooting

Symptom What to check
Unable to sync employee data The device ID must match a station name or registered device; confirm the employee photos exist
No employees have photos Upload photos for employees in the console
Face not recognized Better lighting, face the camera straight, move closer
Camera error Tap Retry Camera
